Lockdown, monsoon and challenges

Roshan is a faith-based emerging young volunteer targets to reach each household in his village. In 5-days he learned that his community is in need of health materials and food relief.

After learning about how communicable disease spreads and how it is prevented, Rohan started reaching each household. There are 120 households that he is planning to reach. In the last 5 days he reached about 35 households. The villages are part of the hill district but the areas are plain and being close to the tropical district, it is hot.

In the last 5 days he experienced new things. He never thought that he would be capable of playing an important role in the areas of health. Everything is closed but he managed the necessities before starting. As he walks and meets people, he feels he is creating hope by teaching about prevention from communicable diseases.

Toilet: Proper sanitation facilities (for example, toilets and latrines) promote health because they allow people to dispose of their waste appropriately. Throughout the developing world, many people do not have access to suitable sanitation facilities, resulting in improper waste disposal.

Absence of basic sanitation facilities can:

  • Result in an unhealthy environment contaminated by human waste. Without proper sanitation facilities, waste from infected individuals can contaminate a community’s land and water, increasing the risk of infection for other individuals. Proper waste disposal can slow the infection cycle of many disease-causing agents
  • Contribute to the spread of many diseases/conditions that can cause widespread illness and death. Without proper sanitation facilities, people often have no choice but to live in and drink water from an environment contaminated with waste from infected individuals, thereby putting themselves at risk for future infection. Inadequate waste disposal drives the infection cycle of many agents that can be spread through contaminated soil, food, water, and insects such as flies.

Console Mission, Playing a Role to Develop Mind from Early Age

Individuals have their own choices. Both old and modern societies have their own cultures and traditions that help them to live their life smoothly. But the fact is that everyone can not stay in one place without going markets, visiting relatives and places like Government offices, hospitals etc.. Interaction is important and happens even if unwanted.

It is parents responsibilities to play a role of mentor to develop mental from early age

Interaction is purposeful therefore it is important that children from early age should get opportunities to develop their mind. And, games like Ludo helps. The other fact about this indoor game is that there are 4-players who plays together. Playing together or doing something together, following rules and accepting lost or appreciating win by other are some of the essentials that this games helps children to develop from their childhood. There are games that is managed at the Study Centre who gets to play in weekend. Such initiation are managed in the rural areas of one district where it is challenging to travel because roads are blocked by landslides.

Games that helps to develop self-attitude like working in team, accepting lost and appreciating win is important

Study Place or Study Centre is a project started since 2018 by participating the members of Console Mission, the individual supporters and the beneficiaries. The main objective of this initiation is that the children who are suffering to do their after school homework and prepare for test/exam because their parents are either busy or illiterate or low educated. To understand the impact, the Intern of Console Mission were sent to the schools and interviewed teachers and found that the children attending Study Place improving and doing well in their studies that is the achievement. Console Mission is looking forward for the opportunity to run this initiation effectively.

Valuable learning experience

NTDs/STH, Choughare – a test project of Console Mission (Dilasha Aviyan)

Soil-transmitted Helminths

During the cold winter of 2018 and 2019, 23 locals were trained to identify symptoms of STH, and after their training, they visited each household to check for reoccurring symptoms. Doesn’t this strengthen their capacity? Learning is important, but learning by doing is more effective.

The focus of the project was more on understanding the symptoms than on treating with medicine. The implementation of the overall activities is still ongoing. However, medicines were administered even though they were not budgeted for. Medicines were obtained by writing an application, and consequently, they were made available because they were necessary to address the issue. It is important to recognize that medicine is a sensitive matter and it should not be handled by those who are non-medical and unqualified, as there is a risk that the drugs may cause side effects. If someone who is allergic, or has liver or bone marrow disease, or is pregnant takes it, either knowingly or unknowingly, it could have negative effects.

In Ward No. 5 of Choughare, a trained individual responded to inquiries regarding symptoms on January 22, 2019.

Even if an individual or organization can obtain it for free, government permission is mandatory because it is a highly effective and prevalent medicine. Without a permit, customs will not allow it to pass through.

During my recent visit to a government health officer in Nepal, I learned that the distribution of free medicine for treating Lymphatic Filariasis, which was last administered in 2017 to all age groups, has been discontinued. However, children under the age of five were treated with Albendazole and Vitamin A in 2018.

In the pursuit of sustainability, local faith-based organizations must demonstrate proactivity. A team whose members are aware of their impact, yet face geographical and logistical challenges in meeting regularly, is essential. If such a team were to convene and conduct awareness programs, their efforts could gain recognition as they engage with each household, akin to the local government’s teachings. Should this team propose initiatives related to health awareness—acknowledging that while public health facilities exist, geographical barriers remain—a likelihood of financial support exists. Their agenda could gain traction, securing the necessary resources. Similarly, the School Health Peer Group might receive backing based on their proven impact. Schools, health posts, and village municipal offices are required to draft an annual plan, for which local assistance is indispensable. Proposals from both formal and informal local entities are considered, with funding contingent upon their credibility. However, plans that overlap or mirror government strategies may face rejection.

As long as an individual or organization does not deviate from the government’s plan, a project or program may proceed without formal approval. However, it is crucial to ensure transparency by maintaining accurate financial records, adhering to the budget, and documenting all provisions, whether they be services, medicines (which should be dispensed logically), or training that falls within the scope of the plan.

Government Office, Konjosom Gaupalika, Lalitpur, Nepal – 27/01/2019

The project focused on empowerment and concept demonstration has concluded. By the end of February 2019, an analysis encompassing activities, challenges, lessons learned, and a presentation on the forthcoming project for the VDCs within Konjosom Gaupalika will be organized. Console Mission will be present in the area, and activities in Choughare will proceed similarly to those of the Health Club. Additionally, their plans for the upcoming year include potentially assisting the Government Health Post with the distribution of vitamins and Albendazole. Should they acquire the medication, they plan to initiate adult dosing as conducted in 2018.

After a year of work, the records of households from 9 wards are ready to be filed. Additionally, there are three more records pertaining to the Health Assessments.

We are talking about full-health not just disease

Diversity| Equity | Inclusion

We have seen how worms and little insects are sitting inside of gauva, apple or any other kinds of fruits like cucumbers, carrot or vegetables that we eat after washing with water. Green vegetables like leaves are also used in many kinds of food.

I know that beside using animals dung human manure is also used in field where vegetables are grown. My question is that related to this example, we put meat in freeze but when it don’t get good temperature for example we had to go out of our house for a week. And, suppose electricity went off or something happened that freeze stopped working. And returning we found that it is smelling and rotten. If we look it carefully we even see worms in it. Not just one but many.

How does that happened? We can find the answer easily. We throw it safe but that remains somewhere. Therefore while learning about Soil-transmitted Helminths I was thinking that MDA or Mass Drugs Administration organised by WHO and other relevant organisations and companies will be effective. I mean sustainably effective or not?

What I remember from learning in training is that it gives a good feeling after returning home if I have made my bed properly after getting up in morning. And only preventive chemotherapy like providing Albendazole for intestinal worms like Hookworms, Whipworms and Roundworms is not effective. Something should go parallel. That is the change of heart or transformation.

Suddenly a person or family couldn’t change their behaviour. After a big incident that could happen but is that good. Isn’t it is better that we don’t have to pay price or face tragic situation because someone has already paid for our peace.

Whether the big buddy like WHO, UN or Government announces sooner or later with handful of data about their work. Citizens should know that annually taking Albendazole whether from health centre or from medicine shop by paying is essential. But that could really happen. Because until parallel structure is present it won’t continue. In every village (mostly) there are people gathers in some place and that happens weekly on same day, same time. I think this is not just something a fellowship but if we could see it deeply it could, this group whether formal or informal obtains value that could give light in the community.

Health club or peer group are just materialistic elements but without someone empowering or consoling with the willing care and compassion, prevention is challenging. Though human have received freedom diseases won’t leave.

Disease is obvious, cause of our past or present, but it is important that we live our life in full. That is possible when we contribute either by living truthful life or living a peaceful life though you are suffering of disease.

Putting more thought over worms, if it was not present in this world how human would have been living their life.

Government would lost in dust without support of Private Sectors

People in government buildings, facilities of traveling in luxurious vehicles and security are busy in nation building that they could hardly see the environment and likely to have time to manage the problems like dust.

But since private sectors who have direct relation with the people and surroundings could pretend not seeing such health hazard situation. It is also an opportunity as they use a word CSR or Corporate Social Responsibility to contribute to place a traffic standing boot. They could have contributed traffic light system but how could the people in system like traffic police (as I am talking about road or vehicle traffic) themselves could focus in technology when whole world is running in technology.

There are traffic light automatic system but there we see traffic police controlling. And that could be according to my guess is because that sometimes don’t work. I think the cause is dust.

City in dust health hazardous to the citizens

When we study the time when there was 10 years of people war, government was ideal in contributing the need of the citizens because the people in government and their belongings were in threat of life. Army were fighting against the Maoist. At that time Private Sector was effective in contributing the economic situations.

How long the dependency remain. Now the Government of Nepal is strict, somehow citizens are feeling losing freedom of speech, freedom of Choice and security. Increasing huge tax rate in every sectors proves that still citizens are in slavery. In one hand democratically threats and another hand increase in tax rate. We hear speech like in certain period Nepalese will be a quality and economically better life. But since the foundation or the starting bounces the democratic views and that created situations in the lives of the citizens, the 5 years period could go by facing challenges and the political party in government will collect fund that will help them to strengthen internally.

Why old age people in tropical places lacks pleasant life

A friend send his mother’s picture as his family are worrying about her health condition.

Rampari Devi, 47 suffering of diabetes

Tropical areas of Nepal are known as Terai or plain areas where cultivation and farming are favourable. Soils and water are available easily. And people are involved and prioritizes agriculture or working in field. Rice planting is an occasion and people temporarily migrating in other parts with educational and work purposes goes to their house during rice planting season.

Walking barefoot because of hot, eating cow, buffalo or goat products like milk or sweet or butter are popular and seen in this area.

The disturbing and distractions that the Terai people goes through every year is the monsoon season when waters from the hilly regions flows and floods ruins their livelihood and habitat.

Since water surrounds house and roads or walking path are filled with water for long time mosquitoes survives easily. Children enjoys swimming in water though it is unsuitable.
